What can be found when looking at proverbs used in a family from time to time? Are the proverbs of the grandparents the same as the ones of parents have been? What do the third, the youngest, generation think about proverbs? This paper will highlight what is to be found when the focus is in family use of proverbial utterances in Finland. As a narrative source I draw on the material collected with interviews of families with three generation. The interviews have been conducted during the years 1994 to 1997 and the collection consists of two parts; the first covering the years 1994–1995 (129 families) and the second the years 1996–1997 (255 families).
